About the event

“The pianist impressed with a mature, highly expressive and delicately passionate handling of the pieces; as if with almost no physical effort, she treated the most demanding virtuoso repertoire with an especially compelling interpretation,” — thus music critics describe Milda Umbrusevičiūtė’s solo recital “Breakthrough.”

M. UMBRUSEVIČIŪTĖ is a pianist of the younger generation, actively performing solo and in chamber ensembles. She made her debut at just ten years old at the Kaunas State Philharmonic with the Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra. Since then she strives to perform every piece with deep dedication and precise technique. The pianist’s piano interpretations combine sensitivity with strong energy.

This artist’s concert program features the creative breakthroughs of two unique composers — M. K. Čiurlionis and M. Ravel. Born in the same year, 1875, these artists developed their creative ideas in different, distinctive cultural environments. Although separated by geography and cultural context, their music shares a close freedom of imagination, a pioneering artistic intuition, and the boldness to transcend tradition. Both composers matured during a period of artistic transformation and reached a creative turning point around the same time — the early 20th century. The program includes works from 1905 and 1908 that were ahead of their time: imbued with mysticism, notable for their innovative harmonies, and reaching toward unexplored musical realms. “Breakthrough” is not only a retrospective look at the legacy of two eminent creators, but also a sounding dialogue of their ideas.
